The house got some fixing up during spring break.
One bedroom and the living room, until Friday, had carpets that dated back to when I bought the house 23 years ago. (Last year we removed the carpet from another bedroom, and a third still has carpeting which I hope we'll replace later this year. We also removed linoleum and installed tile in the kitchen, hallway and bathrooms.)
It's been a long process. We'd buy two boxes of flooring every time we'd go to Sam's Club to buy our monthly groceries. Each box holds seven pieces that cover 21-something square feet of floor. I don't remember the exact amount.
The living room needed 12 boxes and the bedroom needed nine. Then we'd also been saving to pay for the labor to install the flooring. That was expensive! But this is the type of work that you'd want experienced people to do. (By the way, if you don't see the pictures it's because they're linked to my Facebook page.)
The guys started about 9 a.m. and finished about 5 p.m., I think. I'm not sure exactly as I had to work and Mrs. Webber took care of paying the workers.
Then Saturday, we painted the two rooms. Our goal is to repaint all of the rooms inside the house, which I hope we'll get done by the beginning of summer.
She painted the walls where they meet the baseboards (wood strips at the bottom of the walls), wood parts at the bottom of the windows and the top of the walls where they meet the ceilings. I painted the rest, and removed the blinds and curtains, nails in the walls and covers over the electrical sockets and light switches.
I think we'll paint the hallway walls next, followed by either the kitchen or one of the remaining bedrooms. I"m not sure which, yet. I'd imagine we'd do both bathrooms in one-half day; they're small and don't have very much wall area.
I fell and sprained my ankle one week ago Sunday so I didn't get to dig the hole to install my little pond/water fall I received for Christmas. I hope in a week or so. I'll write a blog on it.
